Club Meeting Photos

Certamen!
Every month, the SJA Latin Club Certamen team meets in Mrs. Rouyer's classroom to learn more about mythology/history and to practice their certamen skills through a practice certamen game. The certamen team is split up into two mini teams, and whoever wins gets candy! (Hershey's Kisses, gummy worms, etc.) Not only do we have fun at certamen meetings, but we also get some great convention prep in!

February Meeting
February 4, 2021
At this meeting, we focused celebrating Lupercalia and getting ready for convention. Haley gave a presentation about Lupercalia, everyone played Kahoot!, and the club divided into small groups for the rest of the meeting. Some of the activities included making Lupercalia cards, preparing for convention, painting watercolor paintings, and making a Latin roots video for middle schoolers. Of course, no Latin club meeting is complete without snacks! We enjoyed Valentine's cookies/cupcakes and chips.

January Meeting
January 14, 2021
At our January meeting, the SJA Latin Club started preparing for convention with a fun pottery project! Students molded the pottery out of clay at the meeting and let the clay dry overnight. A few days later everyone got to paint their pottery and take it home!

Pumpkin Contest Meeting
October 3, 2019
We hosted a pumpkin painting contest between all of the grades in the spirit of October spookiness. Tied for first were the seniors, which had a theme from the three ships described to be destroyed by Aeolus in the storm in Book I of the Aeneid, and the sophomores who created a Caesar Pumpkin with a (gruesome) stick stuck into the pumpkin as a knife. We had the best time!

First Meeting
September 5, 2019
It was our first meeting! We're so excited to kick off this year. We talked about how much we LOVE state convention and EFFUSED enthusiasm for the classics. With our members, we played a super fun telephone-style game where we had to draw an image on the back of the person in front of us down a line until it reached the front of the line. The person in the front of the line had to yell out what the image was in Latin. First meeting was an absolute hit!

Hercules Movie Showing
August 30, 2019
Before our first meeting, Latin Club hosted a school-wide movie showing to raise money for Lee High School's Latin textbooks! It was a blast and we had a great time supporting an awesome way to spread the (junior) classical love!
